Can you complete PLT online?

Study the coursework at times that suit you, including evenings and weekends. Full-course tuition is $6,000 domestic, with a separate 20-day workplace requirement.

Complete the coursework online

Choose where and when you study while meeting the assessment requirements. Suitable supervised legal work is a separate component of the course.

What you complete online

Complete practical tasks in drafting, client advice, ethics and legal practice. Assessment is based on these tasks, with no final written exams.

Choose when you study

Choose regular study sessions around family, work or other commitments. Study during the day, in the evening or on weekends while keeping up with the course tasks and assessments.

Rolling applications let you choose a start that fits your circumstances once eligibility and enrolment are confirmed.

What happens in the workplace

Complete 20 days of approved supervised legal work within the 24-week program. The 20 days must be completed during your course. Work completed before the course does not count. An eligible current role or a suitable placement may provide that experience.

On-site, hybrid or remote arrangements depend on approved duties and supervision. 100% online coursework does not automatically make every workplace arrangement suitable.

Online coursework is different from remote workplace experience

You do not need to attend campus for IOLT coursework. That describes delivery of the online subjects; it does not automatically approve a home-based workplace placement.

A proposed remote workplace arrangement still needs suitable legal duties, active supervision and approval. Discuss the details with IOLT before counting work towards the requirement.

Can every part of PLT be done from home?

The IOLT coursework is online. The 20 days must be completed during your course. Work completed before the course does not count. Any remote workplace arrangement also needs IOLT approval.

Are there final written exams?

IOLT uses practical legal tasks rather than a traditional final written examination. You must still complete and demonstrate the required competencies.

Can I study online PLT while working?

Yes. If you work full time, you can complete the online coursework after hours. Set aside regular study time, meet assessment requirements and plan the 20 days of approved workplace experience separately.

Can international graduates study IOLT PLT online?

Eligible international graduates can complete the coursework online. The 20 days must be completed during your course. Work completed before the course does not count. Overseas qualifications should be assessed first so you know what academic and PLT requirements apply.
