Complete only the subjects you need
Targeted, online Practical Legal Training for overseas-qualified and requalifying lawyers who have been directed to complete specific Australian practice competency areas.
Meet specific admission requirements without repeating a full PLT course
Some overseas-qualified and requalifying lawyers are not required to complete an entire Practical Legal Training program. Instead, an Australian admitting authority may direct them to complete particular practical legal training competency areas.
IOLT single-subject enrolment allows you to study the relevant subjects online and receive formal evidence of completion for the subjects you successfully complete.
Designed for applicants with targeted PLT requirements
Single-subject enrolment is intended for applicants who have already received formal directions about the practical legal training they must complete.

Single Subjects FAQs
Can I enrol in individual PLT subjects instead of the full program?
Yes. Single-subject enrolment is available for overseas-qualified and requalifying lawyers who have been directed by an admitting authority to complete particular practical legal training competency areas.
How much does each subject cost?
The fee is $2,000 per subject. Total single-subject fees are capped at $6,000. This means one subject is $2,000, two subjects are $4,000, and three or more subjects are $6,000 in total.
How do I know which IOLT subjects I need?
Your admitting authority's assessment should identify the competency areas you must complete. IOLT can review the assessment and identify the subjects that correspond with those requirements.
Is the training delivered entirely online?
Yes. The coursework is delivered online, allowing you to study from anywhere in Australia or overseas.
How long does each subject take?
The standard study period is approximately three weeks per subject. Additional flexibility may be considered where you need more time because of work, family or other commitments.
What happens after I complete my subjects?
IOLT issues formal evidence for the subjects you successfully complete. You can provide that documentation to your admitting authority as part of your admission pathway.
Do I need to complete every subject listed on this page?
No. You should complete only the subjects or competency areas required by your admitting authority. The number and combination of subjects differ between applicants.
Ready to complete your remaining PLT requirements?
Apply with your assessment documents. IOLT will review your requirements and confirm the subjects relevant to your pathway.
