How your PLT start date works

There is no need to plan around a traditional university semester. Your actual commencement follows the admissions review and offer process.

01

Check your pathway

Confirm whether you are applying as an Australian graduate, early-start applicant or overseas-qualified applicant.

02

Upload your documents

Provide the academic and identity documents relevant to your pathway so the team can assess your application.

03

Accept your offer and begin

Eligible applicants can commence after the offer is accepted and the required enrolment steps are complete.

Plan your finish

Work backwards from your admission goals

Your PLT course runs for 24 weeks and includes 20 days of supervised workplace experience. Allow time after completion for documents to be issued and for the relevant admitting authority to process your admission application.

Your preferred admission ceremony or employment start date should not be treated as your PLT completion date. Each authority controls its own deadlines and processing requirements.

Practical planning point: Apply once your transcript and supporting documents are ready, then build your workplace experience plan early in the course.

PLT start-date FAQs

Does IOLT have fixed PLT intake dates?

IOLT reviews applications year-round. Eligible applicants can begin after accepting their offer and completing the required enrolment steps rather than waiting for a semester intake.

Can I start PLT immediately?

Your start depends on eligibility assessment, documents, offer acceptance and completion of the enrolment steps. Apply when your documents are ready so the team can confirm your pathway.

Can I start PLT before graduating?

In limited circumstances, an early start may be possible after all Priestley 11 subjects are complete, no more than two non-prescribed electives remain and prior written approval has been obtained.

How long does the IOLT PLT course take?

The program runs for 24 weeks and includes online coursework and 20 days of supervised workplace experience.

Do I need a placement before I start?

No. You can apply and commence planning before the arrangement is finalised, but it is sensible to discuss your preferred workplace experience pathway early.

When should I apply if I have a target admission date?

Work backwards from the relevant authority's admission deadlines, allowing for the 24-week course, completion documents and admission processing. IOLT can explain the course timing, but the admitting authority controls admission dates.
