Complete the online subjects and supervised workplace experience within the 24-week course. Check the ACT Court’s timetable separately if you have an admission date in mind.

Before you enrol

  1. Get your ACT assessment

    Contact the ACT Legal Practitioners Admission Board for assessment of your overseas qualifications and training. Obtain its written academic and practical training requirements.

  2. Send your assessment to Admissions

    Send your written assessment, academic records and results for any required Australian study. Admissions will check your documents and explain the full-course enrolment requirements.

  3. Enrol in the full PLT course

    Meet the academic entry requirements and complete IOLT’s enrolment steps. Your offer confirms the full-course fee and start arrangements.

Complete seven online subjects and 20 days of supervised workplace experience over 24 weeks. Use your IOLT completion documents when applying for admission in the ACT.

  • Practical legal tasks and assessments

Complete practical tasks such as drafting documents, preparing client advice and managing legal matters. There are no final written exams.

  • Workplace experience completed alongside the course

Use an eligible current role or arrange a suitable placement. Ask IOLT about placement assistance if needed; suitable opportunities are subject to availability.

ACT Courts publishes admission days, application information and a guide for applicants. Check the current filing timetable before choosing a ceremony, and allow for the time needed to receive your PLT completion documents.

  2. Complete the full PLT course

    Complete seven online subjects and 20 days of approved supervised workplace experience over 24 weeks.

  3. Apply for admission in the ACT

    Follow the current ACT admission process using your academic evidence, assessment and PLT completion documents.

  4. Apply for a practising certificate

    After admission, apply for the practising certificate required for your intended legal work.

IOLT provides the PLT course and completion documents. The admitting authority decides your admission application. Admission and permission to practise are separate steps.
