Complete PLT online for Queensland admission
Your first step is to ask Queensland LPAB to assess any academic or practical legal qualifications completed overseas. Its outcome tells you what further study or training is required.
Your QLD starting point
First, ask Queensland LPAB to assess your qualifications
Queensland requires overseas academic and practical legal qualifications to be assessed by the Board. You may be directed to complete additional Australian study or practical training before applying for admission.
Prepare these for your assessment
- official transcripts and evidence that your overseas law qualification is complete
- subject outlines or course descriptions requested by the Board
- evidence of overseas practical training, admission and legal experience
- identity documents, certified copies and translations where required
Your next four steps
From overseas qualification to admission in Queensland
Plan backwards from your intended admission sitting so your assessment, study, PLT and conduct reports are ready in time.
- Step 1
Seek the Board’s overseas assessment
Have your academic and, where relevant, practical qualifications assessed before treating PLT as your next confirmed step.
- Step 2
Complete the additional study directed
Finish each Australian subject, English language step or practical requirement specified in the assessment.
- Step 3
Complete IOLT PLT and workplace experience
Finish the online course and 20 supervised days, then ensure IOLT has what it needs to issue completion evidence and the required conduct report.
- Step 4
Work backwards from a Queensland sitting
Allow for the 42 day conduct report deadline, filing requirements and separate Supreme Court admission process.
Study with IOLT
Fit online PLT around your Queensland admission timetable
Complete the course from Brisbane, regional Queensland or overseas, then allow enough time for provider reports and court filing.

Plan from the admission sitting backwards
Map assessment, subject results, PLT completion and direct provider reports before choosing a realistic filing date.
Study without regular campus attendance
Coursework is online, making the program accessible across a large and decentralised state.
Use placement to build Australian context
The 20 supervised days can connect prior legal knowledge with Queensland facing professional practice.

QLD questions
Questions students often ask
Use your written assessment and the current admission rules as the final guide for your own application.
The Legal Practitioners Admissions Board of Queensland assesses overseas academic and practical qualifications and may direct further study or training.
For sittings on or after 1 September 2025, reports are required from every university and PLT provider and must be provided directly to the Board at least 42 days before the sitting.
No provider can replace the Board’s individual assessment. Supply your assessment before enrolling so the practical training stage can be reviewed against the directions that apply to you.
No. Online delivery affects how you study, not the Board’s assessment, conduct report, filing or Supreme Court admission requirements.
