When should you start PLT?

Choosing when to start

There is no need to choose PLT solely around a semester intake. Consider your documents, working commitments and intended admission timeline.

Check four things before starting

  • Your qualification is complete or early commencement is approved
  • You have reliable weekly study time
  • You understand the fee and payment dates
  • You have started planning workplace experience and admission

You can keep working while studying

Choose regular online study sessions that suit your week, including evenings and weekends. Plan the 20 supervised workplace days separately.

There is no fixed semester intake to fit around. Apply when your academic evidence and practical plans are ready.

If you decide to take a break

Set a date to review your position. Keep your academic documents together and identify the conditions that will make you ready to begin.

If the gap becomes long, check whether qualification currency requirements affect getting admitted.

Choosing between starting now and waiting

Starting soon after your degree may suit you if your evidence is ready and you can commit regular time to study. Waiting may be more practical if employment, personal commitments or required approvals need attention first.

Choose a realistic start and review your workplace plan. If you take a break, keep your documents available and revisit the authority’s requirements before enrolling.

Frequently asked questions

Will employers expect me to start PLT immediately?

Some graduate roles prefer applicants who have started or completed PLT, while others support PLT during employment. Check the requirements of the particular role rather than assuming one rule applies everywhere.

Is taking a break after law school a problem?

A planned short break is not necessarily a problem. Give yourself a clear restart date and check whether any timing issue applies to getting admitted.

Can I work while completing PLT?

Yes. Many students work during PLT. The arrangement still needs enough weekly time for coursework and a workable plan for the workplace experience requirement.

What if I am not sure whether I am eligible yet?
